I learned programming even before becoming a mother, and since then I was a big fan of women working in tech. After all, why should such a cool job (which provides a lot of freedom) be reserved for men? 🫥
Not only is coding easier than it may seem, but it also opens up many different employment opportunities for us. And if you’re not planning to look for a job in the near future, it’s nice to tickle your brain a bit and learn some new skills to futureproof your career (or even to just pass on that knowledge to your offspring FOR FREE 🥸).
Did you say that learning to code isn’t difficult?
Well, it’s not the easiest thing in the world, but with the right mindset and a well-thought-out plan, it’s definitely doable. After all, every new skill requires effort, brain gymnastics, and practice. Remember how your little one learned to grasp objects… astonishing, wasn't it?
First, shyly pinching with their little fingers, and then they start throwing things like professionals 😎
It’s exactly the same with programming. One concept, then another, the first small application, and soon you’ll be able to learn everything on your own because you’ll already have the basics down 🤞🏼
So why is working as a programmer so cool?
Because it offers a lot of freedom! Or at least it has a potential to…
In most cases, all you need to work with code is a computer (preferably a laptop, because you never know when the next nap will strike 🤭).
One of the positive outcomes of the pandemic is remote work, which more and more employers are opting for. By maintaining the same level of productivity, we as employees can spend more time at home, reduce hours wasted on commuting, and sometimes even avoid sending our little ones to daycare (if that’s what you want anyway).
Close your eyes (but only after reading this paragraph) and imagine… you wake up in the morning, no rushing, 30 minutes before work starts. You prepare breakfast for yourself and your children, calmly sit down in front of the computer, and begin work. You receive tasks for the day or immediately return to the project you’ve been working on this week. You decide when to take breaks and whether you need to finish work when the kids go to sleep - because your manager is waiting for the completed task; it doesn’t matter if you do it at 10am when the kids are at the playground with their grandma or at 10pm when the little ones are fast asleep…
I know it doesn’t always look like this, but there’s definitely more flexibility in this field than in a typical 9-5 where you have to commute, spend the whole day there, and come back home tired in the afternoon, only to see your family for 2 hours before the kids go to bed, while you collapse in front of the TV.
Alright, you’ve convinced me - it’s a cool job, but how do you learn all of this?!
The best way is to follow my Instagram profile and read my blog 😁
I’ve made it my mission to make programming education for mums easier and more accessible.
Starting from the jargon, through language selection, to short tutorials for creating your first mini programs.
I plan to create and share all of this as I go, so the sooner you join, the easier it will be to keep up and start having fun (because, let's be honest, learning to code is all about having a great time!) 🥳
Until next time! 🤙🏼
